Ellissa Nolan, MCA, JP
Ellissa is an artist and pilates instructor living in the world heritage Blue Mountains.
Her practice includes collecting and pressing flowers, creating paper from recycled materials, embedding organic matter, painting with watercolour and exploring aesthetics with melted beeswax.
Inspired by cherry blossoms, scents and scenery, Ellissa works to create a representation of emotions tied to a place or a moment in time. The feelings are ephemeral and as such, sometimes working with organic material means the artwork dissolves and decays with time.
Her recent fascination involves painting flowers with watercolour paints, colour mixing on paper and sculpting wax with embedded pressed flowers. She is inspired by Japanese and Chinese watercolour traditions.
At aged 32, Ellissa enrolled in University and graduated five years later with a Masters Degree in Contemporary Art. Ellissa worked alongside Professor Vincent McGrath at the University of Tasmania's Academy of Arts to establish and manage the Tasmanian Creative Arts Summer School. The summer school attracted over 250 participants to engage in accredited 8 day artistic workshops. Ellissa was also engaged as the Digital Project Manager for Queensland University of Technology's Creative Industries Faculty to design and implement the first ever Digital Communications Strategy. For her efforts she received the Vice-Chancellor's Award and $5,000 prize.
Ellissa’s broader corporate experience spans 25+ years working across University’s, media, advertising, the humanitarian sector, private industry and financial services. She has grown from a receptionist through to becoming an Executive Manager of Digital Services leading large teams of managers, technologists and creatives through digital innovation and organisational change.
Ellissa is a nationally accredited Pilates and Gym Instructor, Arts Administrator and Justice of the Peace.
